Yvette Wall is at the helm of Gem Theatre Company.
For many years, Yvette's husband, David, and daughter, Angela, have contributed to her creative projects and provided support on stage and behind the scenes. And so, this continues.

A very welcome addition to the Gem Theatre Company team is the very talented Connie Wetherilt.

the team

Yvette is an award-winning playwright, producer, theatre director and drama coach as well as a mother of four children. She has a Bachelor of Social Science and has worked as an actor, youth worker and tertiary educator. Since 2000, Yvette has facilitated drama workshops in schools and community groups, in Canberra, Perth and WA's regional areas, culminating in a theatre performance. All the performance material is written by Yvette.

Writing scripts for young people to perform is something Yvette is passionate about, and over the past few years she has penned quite a few fractured fairytales including  – Happily Ever Whatever, Greenarella, Once Upon a Hashtag and Must Be Magic.

When Yvette is not working with young people, she writes one-act plays for all ages. Since 2014, 17 of her one-act plays have been produced in Perth community theatres with a few of these also going to Perth's Fringe World Festival. She has won two local writing awards – Best New Writing at 2014 Dramafest  for The Broken Slipper and Best Original Script for Cracked  at 2015 Hills Festival of Theatre.

In 2019 she was awarded third place in the Noosa Arts Theatre National One-Act Playwriting competition with Little Angels. In 2020 she was awarded third place and the Audience Choice Award in the BATS Theatre Company Edythe Brook Cooper Playwriting Competition with Ashes to Dust.  In 2019 Yvette formed Off the Wall Productions to produce her writing independently and showcase local talent.

Yvette Wall - Artistic Director

Angela has grown up in theatres, acting on stage and working behind the scenes. She is a mother, mental health practitioner and is currently studying a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy. With a flair for videography and sound scaping, she has long been contributing to Yvette’s many productions. Angela’s role in Gem Theatre Company is largely administrative although she may be seen in the workshop space fostering a sense of community and connection.

Angela Wall - Program Administrator

David is a father of 4 children, has a Master of Business Administration and is an audit partner at a well-known accounting firm. In the context of theatre, David is able to channel his management skills into stage management and his passion for woodwork into set design and construction. He has also assisted Yvette in the drama workshop/rehearsal arena on regional projects.

David Wall - Stage Manager

Connie has been performing since she was in diapers and is now passing on the knowledge that she has gained over the past 18 years. She has attended John Curtin College of the Arts for 6 years and has studied in their Musical Theatre and Drama gifted and talented programs and was a mentor and role model during the Covid-19 lockdown for the cast of Bring It On the Musical in JCCA's 2020 senior musical. In 2018 Connie represented Australia at the Dance Worlds in Florida, USA where her team placed 12th in the World in the Open Hip Hop division. Connie is always on the go working both on stage and off stage for many productions. Recently she had the pleasure of working with Wembley Downs students in the production Must Be Magic alongside Yvette Wall.

Connie Wetherilt - Dance Teacher/Choreographer

Yvette writes scripts and produces unique dramatic performances that include every child irrespective of their artistic talents. Yvette’s commitment to inclusion invariably leads to the discovery of more than one or, two talented individuals, who may have otherwise remained unrecognised. The way that Yvette is able to bring out the best in every child and provide them with an opportunity to ‘shine’ is simply exceptional and it never fails to impress me.
